Once again the Ladies of The Guild donned their sensible shoes and county accents as the Home Front advisory service set up camp at this event. Walkers and visitors were able to browse a number of local stands before finding their way to us where the billeting officer organised and labelled children ready for evacuation and explained what they needed to take with them before letting them examine the compulsory gas masks and a  sample of the toys from the World War 2 period.

Knitting, tatting, rag rugging and patchwork  were amongst the decorative skills on display in the Make do and Mend tent, where visitors also heard about the need for careful darning and turning sheets sides to middle to make them last longer.

Rations, coupons, seasonal hedgerow food and Digging for Victory all featured in the food tent where posters of the WW2 period helped remind visitors of the need to grown their own, how to stretch food to last the week and amazed children by how little people were allowed to buy even had it been available in the shops. Life before supermarkets when even the tea was rationed proved a surprise to many youngsters.

Our treat of the day was the organiser's support team who arrived in force at the end of the day and dropped and folded our tents in record time. This was much appreciated by us, and we would like to record our thanks and appreciation of this knidness.
