A number of us went to Tewkesbury's 25th anniversary this year just to enjoy and support  the event which has become a benchmark for Medieval events. There was a huge and impressive encampment on the hill where the king was in residence and the traders' village was thriving in the field below. Henry V's speech before Agincourt rolled over the site on Saturday moring in Robert Hardy's unmistakeable voice as he then went on to open the fair.

The afternoon battle was most impressive on Bloody Meadow, where spectators were 10-15 deep all around the field. Later, Lancastrian survivors were rudely pulled from what they hoped would be sanctuary before receiving rough justice, though a solitary Guild nun tried to offer solace as they approached death. The now traditional evensong closed the day in the Abbey,  movingly, re enactors who have died were remembered for the first time. Some photos of this event are in the gallery for the year.
