This was a wonderful event. A number of different groups, representing periods from prehistory right through to the Second World War, set up chronologically around the village green adjacent to the church. Visitors were able, amongst other events,  to see the ancient art of flint knapping, and the weapons of the Dark Ages, listen to stories from Chaucer,  and see the food of the Medieval Period. There were opportunities to watch  and join in Tudor dancing , be amazed by the excesses of elegant Georgian gowns whilst listening to live music from the time of  World War Two, before retreating to the church for refreshments (especially excellent cakes) and  local history displays.

In the arena there was a battle skirmish and falconry displays, as well as music and dancng. The weather was good, the sun shone down and The Guild's Victorian laundry all blew dry, helped by a number of children  who  discovered  how much hard work was involved in keeping clean.  The  lady archaeologist  told gruesome tales of ancient times,  whilst grown up visitors were fascinated by the intricacies of pillow lace. Younger visitors played with skittles  and victorian toys, supervised by the watchful nursery nurse who kept them in order. The backboard and fingerstocks, punishments reserved in the past for naughty children, proved a resounding success, with many parents asking if they could buy them for use at home.

We would like to thank everyone at Wretton for making us so welcome at this Black Knight Historical event and for a very happy weekend. There all loads of photos of the things that were going on, a number of which will be in the gallery for this event. If you see yourself in a photo and want to download a copy, we are happy to share them and our thanks to everyone who is in them.

You can also find a local photo record of this event at: http://www.joebridge.co.uktourism/wretton.htm
