Norwich Cathedral Medieval Christmas Market PDF Print E-mail

We were privileged to be a small part of this excellent event. Visitor numbers rose by leaps and bounds each day until the final packed Saturday. There was an excellent range of hand made items available - everything from illuminated works of art to fudge, through country wines and the pottery containers to put them in. If you had the gold, even the frankincense and myrrh were available.

The musicians worked overtime, storytellers held young and old alike in thrall, and the weather was beaten by the Cathedral's mulled wine and mince pies which proved very popular. As dusk fell each evening the pillars and tracery of the medieval pillars were lit and the Cathedral's lights intensified the mass of the building as it towered over the cloisters and the market.

On Friday evening The Medieaval Baebes  played to a packed audience in the Cathedral and gave a vibrant performance of their interpretation of medieval and more modern music.

Once again our medieval charlatanry was greeted with reactions from the bawdy to curiously sceptical, but again and again members of the public told us how glad they were they had braved the cold as the whole event was so unlike the usual Christmas fairs they attended.

For anyone who would like a closer look at the event, this link will take you to the organiser's photo gallery:
