The obvious answer is that we all get wet. However,
However, thanks to some talented people who have given up their time, we're well on the way to sorting this one out. As members know, we bought two cut down tents to be Guild property from a Guild member who was changing direction, but discovered once we had them that we had a huge number of problems that still had to be sorted out. One needed finishing, and Dev put in time trying to get one of them ready for Rockingham. It still needed some details like holes for the poles, but it went up at Rockingham, and stayed up despite the best efforts of the weather to blow it down. Maureen, aka Brown Owl, has revealed hidden talents and knowledge where putting up, mending and redesigning tents is concerned. She has manfully undertaken to make the alterations needed to provide us with adequate shelter as her time permits, and even hopes to make a new awning/shelter for Hinchingbrooke in July. This has been cunningly planned so that it can be expanded over time as funds permit to turn it into a more substantial tent. Enter also, other new members, Roger Pigerham and his wife, Lesley. Roger, we've discovered is a Mr. Fixit, or in this case, chop it. He has kindly taken a saw to the long tent poles, halved them, and added collars. To all members who have yet to discover the dubious delights of drying a wet tent in their living room, this means that the tents will now fit in anyone's cars - assuming of course that they haven't already managed to fill it completely with other essentials. So the answer to what happens when it rains, is a big thank you to Dev, Roger, and Maureen for their time and work. |
