Taking place over the first May Bank holiday weekend, this was the first of what we hope will become an annual event. Although there were representatives from most period groups, we were the only ones to offer an Egyptian priestess. At least, we did for the first two days until the increasingly blustery wind lifted a tent pole from its moorings and knocked her out. Many thanks to all the site stewards, and the St. John's ambulance who looked after her, and enabled us to leave the site for Kettering hospital's A&E department. At the entrance, for those who didn't get to see it that weekend, is a large sign telling all visitors to smile as they're on camera. We're still wondering just what the security staff would think they'd eaten; after all it's not everyday that a fully painted figure from a wall painting staggers in through their automatic doors Although the A&E department were not then aware of the extremely large event only a few miles away, they certainly were by the end of the weekend, with the usual variety of battle casualties that fail to fit on most tick lists. Apart from that excitement we all had a brilliant time and would like to thank Duke Henry and all organisers for inviting us.
